Dr. R V Jahagirdar
Is originally hails from Bijapur District. After obtaining B.Com. degree he devoted himself to the service of Rashtreeya Swayam Sevaka Sangh, as a full time worker, and served in Mangalore District and Bangalore City from 1980-1983. From 1983 to 1985 he served as the sub-editor of “Utthana” magazine and then till 2002 he was the head of the Rashtrotthana Sahitya Publications.
The Einstein International University of Florida, USA has conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), for his profound Thesis – ‘‘The Relevance of the Vedas to the Modern Times’’ (2011) and ‘Professor of Oriental Studies’ (2013).
Presently Dr. Jahagirdar is Managing Trustee of Sri Aurobindo Kapali Sastry Institute of Vedic Culture (SAKSHI), Bangalore, directing research in the Vedas, publication of books, planning and conducting workshops on the Vedas etc. He is also the editor of the News Bulletin of SAKSHI, and editor and director of SAKSHI project for translating and publishing all the four Vedas in Kannada, and various Indian languages.
Krishna Yajurveda Taittiriya Samhita 1st Kanda and 1st Mandala of Rig Veda and many other books on the Vedas are his translations completed and published under the guidance of Dr. R.L. Kashyap, which have been whole-heartedly welcomed by all the Veda-lovers.
Dr. Doddarange Gowda, a Kannada Litterateur of repute, brought out a critique, under the title “Veda Bagina” on the above works.
Several magazines of the land have published many of his articles dwelling on social concern, Nationalism and personal profiles. Equally having a poetic bent of mind, he has published many poems in several magazines. He has published a collection of poems, “Sambhava” to his credit. His poems mostly touch upon ‘Man’s inner world’, Interhuman relations, spiritual journey and such themes of deep significance.
Extensive are his achievements in the field of translation, stretching across languages. To mention a few, ‘Osho’s ‘Kranti Bija’ from Hindi, Yogacharya BKS Iyengar’s ‘Arogya Yoga’ and ‘Yoga for All’ from Marathi, Seetaram Goel’s ‘An Experiment with untruth’, Geeta Iyengar’s ‘Yoga – a Gem for Women’, ‘Pranayama with Postures for Specific Benefits’ of M.K. Gopalakrishna, ‘Saraswati – the Goddess of Inspiration’ and ‘Vedic Knowledge for Moderns’ of Dr. R.L. Kashyap, etc. Being sold widely and in huge numbers, his translations have won many awards for him from Literary Institutions.
His translation, from Shri M.P. Pandit’s writings under the title ‘Nemmadiya Balu Nimmadagisikolli’ won for him ‘Goruru Sahitya Prashasti’ for the best translation in 2002.
‘O Manasse, Bagilu Tegi’, ‘Manassige Vyayama’, on personality development, and, “Yashaswi Krishi – Krishi Madari’, ‘Susthira Krishi’ on agriculture have proved to be widely popular.
Dr. Jahagirdar has greatly contributed to the up-bringing of many budding writers and translators, through the institutions he worked with.
He is an accomplished visualizer of front-page and ‘Inside-page-layout’ of books. His dexterity is manifest in more than two hundred books, he workd upon.
His experience in the area of publicity of books is quite vast and considerable. He has creditably introduced many novel and effective projects with a view to reaching out books to the mass. His efforts to publish and distribute ‘O Manasse, Relax Please’ of Swami Sukhabodhananda, of which 40,000 copies sold within one year of publications stand testimony to his efficacious skill in this field.
‘Sahitya Vahini’, ‘Veda Vahini’ – the mobile book stalls, distributing books from door to door, are Dr. Jahagirdars’ projects which he conceived and implemented sustainingly.
He is adviser to many publication institutions in Bangalore, including ‘AuroNada’.
His love for books is further exhibited in his involvement and effort as a chief project officer of the project ‘A Library for each School’ – launched by ‘Infosys Foundation’ to supply books to Ten Thousand Schools.
As an adept speaker, he has delivered many lectures and conducted many workshops on Personality Development and Excellence, which have motivated people from diverse vocations. Apart from being involved in several social and cultural activities, he is engaged in experiments in ‘Environment friendly agriculture’ and propagation of similar agricultural methods.
